We are interested in studying and improving the properties and functions of two metabolic tissues - skeletal muscle and adipose tissue in individuals with non-communicable diseases and/or age-related conditions. Non-pharmacological interventions, including exercise and a healthy lifestyle, play a pivotal role in maintaining the normal physiology of the two tissues. Therefore, one of the focuses of our lab is to develop novel exercise modalities to improve human health through improving skeletal muscle and adipose tissue physiology. To this end, we need to be researchers who work and think across several disciplines including exercise science, health science, and biomedical science. We believe that exercise is medicine and is useful in managing diseases; yet, our ultimate goal is to prevent illnesses in their initial states by improving the “health” of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue.
